At the deepest level, we are the Earth and the Earth is us. Human beings are one of the diverse forms of life that evolved out of conditions upon the Earth. Our very existence depends completely upon the Earth, from the air that animates us, to the food that nourishes us, the water that gives us life, and the shelter that protects us. The Earth is our Mother in the sense she gives us life, provides and takes care of us.
When we serve the very source of what gives us life, there is a very deep sense of connection and spiritual fulfillment. The Earth is the physical embodiment of wisdom, her every nuance is the outgrowth of universal law. When we return to our roots, we feel connected. By putting our hands in the soil, we are healed. We start to remember something ancient and deep within us.
The health of Mother Earth is her flowering richness and diversity of life, thriving in harmony and perfect balance. However, humanity is consuming and polluting at an ever increasing rate, every natural resource available.
If we continue to consume without giving back, we will run out. Already the balance of our planet’s ecosystems and microclimates that once supported intricate and interconnected forms of life are deteriorating. 150 – 200 species of plants, insects, birds, and mammals go extinct each day. Scientists predict that by 2050 the oceans will have no more fish.
We are no different than the Earth and all forms of life. We are composed of all the same elements. We came from the same Source that created all of creation and by reconnecting, we reunite with a primal purpose: to live in harmony as a part of all creation.
As we move forward in the Aquarian Age, collective consciousness is awakening. Every effort to raise awareness, serve one another, and uplift each other serves that awakening planetary group consciousness.
By dedicating time and energy towards serving our planet, we also serve ourselves, and we enhance the quality of life for everyone.
The Seva Sadhana Program at the Mother Ashram
The Seva Sadhana program was inspired by a call from the Earth; an empty field filled with weeds sat just asking to be restored to vibrancy. Reflecting on Yogi Bhajan’s words, “This land is healing land and all who come will be healed, uplifted, and transformed,” why not welcome people from all over the globe to come?
Step by step the pieces came together. A building was donated and restored for living quarters for participants (known as sevadars, or selfless servants). Word of mouth spread, many people inquired, and the Seva Sadhana program started receiving guests from all directions.
Sevadars experience the blessings of Ashram living, deepen their practice and understanding of Kundalini Yoga & Sikh Dharma, and serve an integral role in the unfolding living legacy left by Yogi Bhajan.
The program welcomes yogis and spiritual seekers from all over the world to come to Hacienda de Guru Ram Das, the Mother Ashram, and serve the land as they serve their soul. Rise in the amrit vela for group spiritual practice, live the 3HO lifestyle, learn, grow, and serve the land and community.
The Seva Sadhana program features the core elements of Ashram living: selfless service (seva), daily spiritual practice (sadhana), and spiritual community. Participants stay at the Ashram, rise early for morning sadhana, and contribute about 25 hours of seva each week including working in the community garden.
There are three different ways to participate in the program: the three-week intensive, the self-guided stay, and group seva. Visit our website for more information www.sevasadhana.org or contact the program director.
All are welcome to come and live the healthy, happy, holy lifestyle, rise in the amrit vela, practice the yoga of awareness in community, and learn, grow and participate in the activities of the Mother Ashram.
“This truly was an exceptional opportunity to expand my spiritual practice in a protected and supportive environment. I can’t wait to come back to the Mother Ashram.”

The Community Garden
The Guru Amar Das Langar Garden provides fresh and vibrant produce for our community meals (langar). As the garden expands, so does our capacity to serve the community. Yogi Bhajan would say that by serving the land we are healing ourselves and healing the Earth. By living in harmony and serving the land, we share in life’s abundance.
